About
ABOUT
The Town of Brighton is developing a plan for an accessible, off-road, and multi-use trail system connecting the campuses of the University of Rochester, Monroe Community College, and Rochester Institute of Technology. The Multiversity Trail Plan was identified in the Town of Brighton's comprehensive plan, Envision Brighton 2028. Once complete, the Multiversity Trail Plan will inform the establishment of functional, equitable, and sustainable connectivity between the three campuses and surrounding cultural and open space assets. Envisioned is a network of walking and biking routes spanning the triangle between the three campuses. Comprehensive engagement of stakeholders and equitable public input will shape the concept plan.

Approximately 80% of the Multiversity Triangle trails exist in some useable form. Some segments are missing, some segments need to be improved to meet current best practices for sustainability and active transportation, and there are conflict points at some existing road crossings. Trail user experience can be improved by adding resting points, micro-destinations, and side loops off the main trail corridors. Consistent wayfinding is needed to maximize connectivity to community resources. Merging trail enhancements with ecosystem restoration will improve biodiversity, provide bio sequestration of carbon dioxide, and capture the full potential of the trail corridors for climate mitigation.
